Welcome to 2017 crew.
That’s me back in the bay after another visit to the Hawaiian islands with a bunch of new ideas and concepts to progress Webster Surfboards. During my stay in Hawaii, I was lucky enough to get two mid-size swells and ride a few waves at Waimea Bay, one of the most amazing and beautiful line-ups in the World.
This season in Hawaii saw an all-round increase in board volumes in big wave boards. Surfers are more than ever embracing the increase in foam and ability to paddle into larger waves.
This year my focus is to further increase the volumes of my step-up and gun range with flattened, double-concaved decks. I have previously introduced the Magneto Deck idea into my fish boards with great results.
Stay tuned with more info to come soon.
Congratulations to Camel for taking out the Oakley Big Wave Awards for the Biggest Paddle in wave AUS/NZ. Camel was riding a 10’10 Twig model. Photo by Andrew Brooks.
Hawaii was awesome, now back to the shaping bay for me. I had a great trip and scored tonnes of swell, but in mostly stormy conditions. The pic above is at Waimea Bay on the 26.01.14 and was definitely one to remember. So it was great to get a bigger wave fix again, and now bring on Autumn at home. Photo – thanx Christian.
Grant “Twiggy” Baker is the 2014 Champion of the Body Glove Mavericks Invitational presented by GoPro. Twig also won the event back in Feb 2006 and is on a roll after winning the Punta Galea event back in December.
The results were 1. Grant Baker 29.33 // 2. Shane Dorian 25.53 // 3. Ryan Augenstein 16.66 // 4. Tyler Fox 12.66 // 5. Greg Long 12.00 // 6. Anthony Tashnick 0.00.
The Napalm is a Semi-Gun designed for medium to large waves. The aim of this model is to shorten the overall length of a Step-Up board whilst maintaining paddle power, volume and control at high speeds.
The Napalm has been re-worked from the popular Lenny the Ox model and has added thickness through the nose and rail profile. This Step-Up board wants to be surfed hard and fast and is perfect for Point Breaks, Slabs or Reef Breaks.
Congratulations Twig on your Big Wave World Tour event win in Spain. After a massive year of preparing and organising for the BWWT, it’s great to get a green light for the comp and see Twig finally get a chance to show what he does. Catching a couple of bombs in the final on his Webster Surfboards 10’0, Twig took out the Punta Galea title with a near perfect score of 29.01 out of 30.
2013 has been great year for me, working closely with Twig in designing and refining his equipment and has lead to some great gun models coming out of our shaping bay, read more about the TWIG model here.
Check out the Nov/Dec issue of Smorgasboarder magazine where I drop a little insight and info into current Gun design and manufacturing.
